Our services have been retained to recruit a PROJECT ENGINEER for a mid-size, privately held, multi-plant, West Coast beverage processor. The position will be located in a beautiful central valley community of 120,000 offering good schools, shopping, reasonable cost-of-living, and many outdoor recreational options (near foothills of the Sierra Mountains). Our client is investing nearly $60MM in two central valley plants over the next two years so the Project Engineer will manage medium to large capital projects such as new line installations, new storage facility and new silos.

Reports to the Manager of Engineering and Maintenance and will serve as one of three Engineers covering capital projects across two production facilities. The Engineer is responsible for the administration of engineering and construction contracts, constructability plan review, and to ensure all projects are performed in accordance with contract documents, including but not limited to drawings, project manual and specifications. Provides root cause and failure analysis as required to improve operational reliability. Assists in developing long term strategic plans to effectively maintain and improve production performance and facility infrastructure. This position has no direct reports but works collaboratively with the maintenance, production, safety, QA and environmental managers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and leads plant specific engineering and maintenance strategies to achieve key performance goals. Coordinates with inspectors, design engineers, consultants and contractors to resolve issues found during construction. Effectively track and report on the financial performance of all project. Reviews construction activity and attends construction meetings as needed to minimize potential problems on projects. Reviews and recommends approval of change orders for condition changes, quantity changes, reasonable costs and proper solutions to issues found. Data entry and reporting change orders, subcontract change orders, agreements, and job cost reports. Competitively specify and price owner supplied item. Create Purchase Orders, Invoices and Change Orders. Issue subcontracts to vendors and communicate with them regularly regarding payment status. Follow up on outstanding project accounts receivable. Create and maintain a checklist of all required project documents. Assist with the coordination of onsite schedules, deliveries and installations. Work with various agencies to issue certificates and ensure contractual requirements are met. Assist with closeout documentation. Creates, understands and strictly manages all plant technical expense budgets and works with the Engineering manager to deliver the capital budget. Monitor and review the performance of maintenance and repair trades. Perform other duties as assigned and required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: This position requires an extremely organized and detail-oriented person who is able to work in a fast-paced, extremely time-sensitive position, with the ability to effectively build relationships both internally with our operations and finance teams, and externally with contractors, trades, vendors and consultants. Must work with local/state/federal agencies, and corporate insurance/risk management and other agencies to ensure the facility meets/exceeds codes and/or policies. Must effectively communicate both written and oral and work collaboratively within the plant and as required, across all facilities. Travel to vendors, training seminars, other plants. Understanding of architectural plans, elevations, sections and details. Strong skills using Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and have the ability to produce reports using database, spreadsheet, presentation and other various software. Strong CADD skills. Must have the ability to manage a project with minimal supervision, complete and maintain project files. Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and problem-solving abilities. Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives with little supervision. Ability to professionally communicate financial details and project statuses to various departments, including senior management

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Field. (Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering). Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in a technical field in a food manufacturing facility
