Our services have been retained to recruit a PLANT MANAGER for a plant location in ATLANTA of an international food company. This 3-shift facility of 80 union employees produces wide range of bakery products. My client has multiple facilities across the U.S. but their bench strength is thin hence the need to go external to fill this role. Position is open as incumbent is set to retire in several months.

Is not a large facility…my client will consider those currently in #1 role or those in #2 role but ready to sit in the Captain’s chair.

This position manages the plant’s production and distribution of bakery products distributed throughout the United States and abroad and is accountable for all aspects of this operation to include: • financial performance, production operations, quality and product safety, maintenance and engineering, distribution, employee safety, assets, inventory, etc. and the continuing development of this segment of company operations. • Manage day to day operations by directing a staff of managers, supervisors, and administrators in a facility of approximately 80 production and warehouse across three continuous shifts of operation. Set priorities, delegate assignments and follow up on results to ensure timely accomplishment of tasks and the achievement of the facility’s operating and financial objectives. • Initiate and maintain programs to ensure and continuously improve upon product safety and sanitation, compliant with the standards and requirements of the Global Standard for Food Safety and other third-party safety and/or quality auditing entities. Ensure compliance with all promulgated policies, regulations, and standards. Ensure plant personnel remain vigilant and follow food defense procedures. Evaluate the facility’s operating and financial performance and requirements. Formulate long term objectives, strategies, resource requirements, etc. • Select, coach, motivate, develop and evaluate a multi-disciplined plant management team. Increase management's effectiveness by training and developing managers to meet and exceed Company goals. Communicate strategies and objectives; assign accountabilities and monitor job results. Plan for succession. Administer labor contract with local union, formulate and implement plant human resources strategies, resolve employee grievances, approve hiring, promotion, discipline, discharge of bargaining unit employees. Resolve labor relations issues with union Business Agent. • Evaluate the effectiveness of established methods, controls, and reporting systems. Develop and direct the implementation of methods and systems to improve quality and efficiency of operations. Obtain approval and commitment at the corporate level as necessary. • Supervise and coordinate plant and equipment engineering and maintenance. Approve all major repairs. Consult with plant Maintenance Manager and corporate Director of Engineering to design/modify equipment to improve on quality and operational efficiency. Plan long term equipment needs to maintain adequate capacity and/or enhance operational efficiency and advise/recommend plans to executive operations management. Obtain proposals on specific purchases and generate appropriations requests for corporate approval. Ensure successful installation and achievement of objectives. • Assure adherence to established safety policies and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Execute programs directed by corporate and insurance carrier. Develop and implement additional programs to improve plant-wide safety awareness Monitor and analyze QA reports, process control and production reports in order to ensure compliance to product quality standards. • Review and approve all facility expenditures to include purchase orders, invoicing, etc. • Oversee facility distribution activities to ensure continued supply of product to third party inventory locations and other “direct “shipments.

Targeted candidates will offer 10+ years food industry operations management experience with at least several years in baking industry (must have baking industry experience!). Prior union experience preferred but not required. 4-year college degree preferred but not required.
