|Our services have been retained to recruit two CORPORATE PROJECT ENGINEERS for a multi-plant, billion dollar plus food processor based in Midwest (OH/IN region – large city). Both positions report to VP of Engineering, are newly created roles and require 40-50% travel to company facilities. My client is one of the best kept secrets in the food industry, is growing and offers great initial challenge and long term opportunities.
Scope: The Project Engineer initiates and executes mid-to large-size capital projects that improve plant operations and utilization to achieve maximum productive capability at the lowest operating cost. • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completes technical studies and prepares cost estimates • Coordinates multiple projects with management, plant personnel, engineering, suppliers and consultants; provides on-site supervision of contractors as required. • Evaluates impact of changes to plant operations, safety, and food safety prior to and subsequent to project implementation; calculates return on investment; presents capital projects to senior management for approval. • Reviews and recommends changes to plant layout to optimize flow for new and replacement equipment. • Collaborates with site leadership and operational excellence teams to complete detailed analyses of plant performance and improve utilization of equipment, personnel and utilities • Partners with Technical Services, R&D and Operations to identify and implement the latest technology and best practices for equipment selection and facility maintenance standards across all sites • Analyzes vendor and equipment alternatives for new or replacement machines. • Analyzes and recommends warehouse and material handling methods. • Analyzes and recommends building construction materials and applications. • Compiles and submits information for all required department/corporate monthly, quarterly and annual reports. • Researches and recommends resolution to environmental or safety issues
Qualifications: • BS degree in engineering or a technical field, preferably in chemical or mechanical engineering. • Minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience in processing and/or packaging manufacturing. • CPG, nutritional, or food processing experience is preferred – will consider anyone with continuous processes and finished product packaging. Key questions candidates must answer: • Have you ever managed a project that required coordination of external resources such as equipment manufacturers, system integrators, construction contractors and engineering design firms? Yes = good! • Have you ever been responsible for the startup of a new piece of equipment or manufacturing line? Yes = good! • Have you been brought into a setting to troubleshoot a design problem or improve efficiencies within manufacturing? Yes = good!
Competencies: • Strong analytical, financial and project management skills • Experience with continuous improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma – Green belt or Black belt is preferred • Stable work history and on upward path in career • Understanding of systems and controls integration would be a plus • Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software • Effective at technical business communication
