|Our services have been retained to recruit a CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (CI) MANAGER to be based in an OH/IN plant location, but support a 12 plant manufacturing network for a major North American food processor. The facility is located in a distant suburb of a major city offering good schools, moderate cost-of-living, many leading educational institutions and an abundance of outdoor/recreational opportunities. This is a newly created position.
The CI Manager will be working in our client’s 300 person, non-union, state-of-the-art, 200,000 sq. ft. food manufacturing operation housing 8 highly automated production lines and possessing a strong team oriented culture. This is a highly visible role! Initially staff level but will build out a team of 2 CI Specialists in the near future. The CI Manager is accountable for leading CI activities in the region, partnering with plant leadership in the region to deliver and drive standardization, and build CI capability in the CI team and the plants. They will support the regional deployments, and ongoing management of the various initiatives/programs that are key levers within our client’s manufacturing network.
• The CI Manager should be responsible for aligning with the Director, CI on implementing and driving leadership surrounding standard work, and problem-solving systems focused on the core operation (technicians, Front Line Leaders, etc.) and drive these initiatives in the plants in the region. • The scope of work should include, but not limited to, building and managing a local continuous improvement team, adapting global standards to regional and plants, and coaching plant continuous improvement managers on driving improvement and standard work • The CI Manager shares and benchmarks best practices with other CI Managers and CI specialists. • The CI Manager should anticipate and identify risks within the deployment and raise any issues with the Director, CI • The CI Manager shares regional plant performance weekly and monthly with the Director, CI
The CI Manager’s role is responsible for supporting their region’s launch, deployment, and ongoing management of the various initiatives/programs that are key levers within our client’s manufacturing network. These include - but may not be limited to:
• Aligns with Director, CI on priorities for regional manufacturing system implementation with company corporate and plant leadership teams • Provides active support to the continuous improvement deployment team and acts as a primary point of contact for escalation for regional plants • Participates and performs assessments and health checks • Identifies gaps in implementation against the plan and develops action steps with the Director, CI and plant leadership team of their region • Acts as the daily coach to their region’s plant managers, coaches and the line deployment teams by spending time on the floor and being available to other plant managers. They promote key leadership behaviors like servant leadership and total employee ownership through coaching, focusing on loss-elimination and implementing systems. • Drives the development and support of operational technology implementation and deployments at their region’s operations and plants to drive and sustain capability and results • Supports the development of plant strategies and business plans and coaches’ teams to align actions to attain the goals developed. Assures that the proper level of qualifications reside at the plants to successfully deploy the skills and systems needed to achieve the business plans and targets • Drives the performance and financial analysis that supports process improvement, cost reduction activities, and/or manufacturing optimization (labor, Waste, OEE) • Utilizes project management tools to track progress and provide status updates on key projects with plant project teams including leading sub-tracks of projects through to implementation • Networks with other regional facilities for reapplication of savings projects • Provides manufacturing execution support to other plants (who do not have CI Leader position) as required Successful candidates will possess four year college degree (engineering preferred but not required), a stable work history and continuous learning in CI, project management, and manufacturing systems implementation with at least 5+ years of operations management experience.
