|We seek a SALES MANAGER (pet food products emphasis) for a billion dollar, multi-plant, privately held very profitable food processor. One of the best kept secrets in the food industry! Two options in terms of location… 1) Sales Manager, 3-5+ yrs. experience, based in St. Louis, MO., 50% travel or 2) Senior Sales Manager, 5-10+ yrs. experience, can work remotely (no need to relocate to St. Louis) but travel up to 75%.
Position reports to V.P. of Business Development and will include field sales activities of assigned products and markets necessary to develop; profitable sales of products; penetration of markets; knowledge of customer needs; identification of the most efficient and profitable distribution channels; complete and effective communication with the sales service function; and sound management practices consistent with company procedures.
Duties: • Establishes and maintains key target accounts and sales priorities for assigned territories and manages all aspects of the sales process for those accounts. • Develops new customer accounts in pet food or related channels by connecting customer challenges with company capabilities to create win:win outcomes. • Develops strategies to convert transactional relationships into long-term strategic relationships. • Delivers market and account penetration based on sales plan and profit margins for existing and new products. • Works with the Sales and Marketing teams in developing sales budgets, monitoring progress and adjusting strategies or tactics as needed. • Manages cross functional teams to assure timely customer receipt of product within the standards of budget, policies, procedures, work rules, quality, safety, sanitation and Federal and State Laws. • Reports progress on all activities utilizing both verbal and written communication on a regular basis. • Communicates customers’ needs to appropriate company personnel and manages progress to ensure requests are brought to conclusion. • Understands competitive landscape including; products, features, and pricing. Demonstrates the ability to translate competitive insights into strategic recommendations and actions. • Provides market assessments and participates in business assessments for company. • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Experience: • For Sales Manager role, qualified candidate will possess 3-5+ yrs. experience in sales (pet food experience strongly desired) or Sr. Sales Manager 5-10+ yrs. experience in sales (pet food experience strongly desired). Should also possess strength in budget development/maintenance and project management. • Has a track record of demonstrated success in growing baseline sales, managing key customer accounts and identifying new opportunities for future growth via prospecting. • Demonstrated history of developing and maintaining a strong network of contacts and resources within their industry. • Has a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Animal Science, Nutrition, Biology, Food Science or related discipline. • Has previous successful record of acquiring and applying professional/technical knowledge, skills, experience and judgment to accomplish results, improve customer service and contribute to the organization’s intellectual capital. • Has experience in creating opportunities based on spotting market trends and matching them with process capabilities. • Must possess excellent communication, organizational and leadership/management skills • Is a strong believer in new account and new product development • Understands how sales drive the budgeting process and impact plant manufacturing operations. • Has a good mental vision of a successful sales and marketing process. • Has understanding and awareness of processes and the need for continuous improvement. • Is willing to travel, either domestically or internationally, up to 50% of the time.
Salary: Sales Manager - $50-60,000 base with outstanding company bonus/profit-sharing (one of the best in the food industry) for gross compensation in the $100,000 range.
