Our services have been retained to recruit a TECHNICAL MANAGER (QA/Food Safety) for plant location (130 employee bakery and located in Southern Michigan - medium size community one hour West of Detroit offering good schools, moderate cost-of-living, many outdoor recreational activities and a superior quality of life), for one of the food industry’s best kept secrets…a $1.3 billion processor with 10+ plants nationwide, profitable and growing.

Position reports to the Plant Manager and the person we seek will be the top technical individual at the plant level. This position leads the plant in assessing food safety and quality related to all aspects of the facility. Leads and participates in initiatives to develop new products or improve existing products and processes for FO. This may involve working with suppliers, customers and corporate technical teams. Leads and participates in initiatives to improve products and processes related to quality, food safety and consistency. As a key member of the plant management team, assists the plant manager in providing quality and food safety leadership to employees. The Technical Manager will participate / lead projects in conjunction with Corporate QA/Food Safety management. Will lead team of 4 to 10 QA Technicians or Analysts (supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, appraising and terminating employees; planning, assigning and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints/grievances and resolving problems).

Requires BS or BA in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or other similar science related field; Lean Six Sigma experience – Green Belt Certification desired; product development experience desired; 5+ yrs. experience as a QA Supervisor/Manager in a food related industry; must be able to lead projects/people, motivate associates and proactively anticipate and address issues.

Salary in the $80-90,000 base range with 5% bonus potential, very competitive benefits, growth potential and relocation assistance.
