|Our services have been retained to recruit a DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS (Plant Manager) for a new 100,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art fresh & frozen food production facility located in Northeast PA (not Philly). Our client is a rapidly growing (50%+ annually) national privately held food processor with sales in excess of $100MM. This is an exciting opportunity with excellent challenge and growth potential. This is an immediate need!!
Position reports to CEO and will oversee the day-to-day operations and personnel for this newly opened facility. Currently four direct reports, to including production, quality and warehousing) and approximately 35 hourly employees but an additional shift will likely be added this Summer. This is a bulk production operation. Position will require the individual hired to be able to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time and demands strong communication skills.
Ideal candidate is someone who sees this role as a step up…to a higher level of responsibility and challenge. Definitely NOT looking for those coasting in careers.
Primary roles and responsibilities of the position are outlined below: • Write and review established production schedules for all manufacturing departments to ensure established inventory levels are met while operating at the highest efficiency possible. • Monitor and improve production yields to determine trends and areas of improvement. • Analyze workforce requirements and coordinate the hiring and training of all manufacturing personnel both permanent and temporary. • Establish and track KPI’s for all departments. • Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all operations employees. • Work closely with production team to ensure all members of the manufacturing team are aware of safety policies to provide a safe workplace. • Develop preventive maintenance program and spare parts program with Maintenance Manager to minimize downtime. • Monitor operation and maintenance expenses and research ways to reduce cost while maintaining product quality and preventing downtime and developing good supplier connections. • Implement inventory cycle count program that identifies real and potential inventory issues in finished goods, raw materials, packaging, and containers. • Maintain appropriate inventory levels and control and improve the flow of production. • Work closely with QC Manager and personnel to achieve and maintain compliance and customer satisfaction. • Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program, including all timely communication initiatives as well as maintain a safe and secure work environment.
• Strong computer skills including the ability to prepare spreadsheets and use Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Power Point and/or Access) to analyze data trends. • Strong hands-on user of MRP/ERP software systems and maintenance systems. • The ability to develop and execute plant manufacturing budgets. • Ability to provide leadership for the successful day-to-day operation of the facility. • Demonstrate strong team building and advanced coaching skills. • Encourage and promote a continuous improvement environment. • Demonstrate understanding of the principles and applications associated with manufacturing operations, maintenance, and engineering. • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to balance production and maintenance needs. Education, Experience and Certificates: • Bachelors level degree preferred but will consider those who have worked their way up from the floor. Minimum 8+ years progressive experience in a key leadership/management role at a food manufacturing facility. • Previous experience with lean manufacturing processes, strong understanding of budgeting/expense management with basic understanding of financial accounting practices and broad understanding of safety systems and implementation of safety rules and policies.
Salary in the $130-160,000 base range with an annual bonus potential (up to 25%) AND newly instituted LTI. Company offers competitive benefits package and relocation assistance.
