Our services have been retained to recruit a DIRECTOR OF MANUFACTURING for a four-plant division of multi-billion-dollar international food processor. Our client, a profitable and fast-growing human and animal food manufacturer, is based in medium size metro in the Plains States (moderate COL, booming economy, great educational options and superior quality of life) with manufacturing spread across multiple facilities throughout the nation. This is a dynamic food processor…one of the food industry’s best kept secrets!

The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for the overall operational performance of four drying facilities, with the responsibility to ensure true manufacturing excellence. This will include ensuring consistently high operational performance, adherence to budget, regulatory compliance, continuous improvement, and employee engagement. This position will interact frequently and effectively with other functions to ensure overall profitability goals. This role will travel up to 50%. Staff of four Plant Managers and positions reports to VP Operations.

Ideal candidate will possess 8+ years food industry operations management experience. Prefer pet food or spray dry experience. Ideally seeking multi-plant experience but will consider strong Plant Manager ready for next level. Stability and strong upward progression is essential. Must be willing to travel to 50% and relocate to Midwest medium size metro.

MANUFACTURING EXCELLENCE Consistently high levels of performance (efficiencies, yields, cost, quality, on-time deliver) by ensuring: 1. All facilities have adequate processes, standards, reporting, controls, goals and objectives (meeting / exceeding budget expectations). 2. Identification and sharing of best practices and innovation across production platforms. 3. Highly effective data collection and reporting systems that include robust dashboards, KPIs, scorecards, and trends. 4. Adherence to continuous improvement tools to maintain the plants’ operational and financial competitiveness. 5. All facilities meet budgeted operational and financial metrics.

ASSET CARE AND RELIABILITY 1. Ensures an on-going capital plan to provide capacity, safety, regulatory compliance, and to maintain a reliable asset base. 2. Ensures an effective maintenance and reliability program at all facilities.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE 1. Maintains uniform and consistent adherence to regulatory standards, including: occupational safety, food safety, quality, and environmental requirements per corporate standards, and the plants' locations. . CROSS FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION 1. Assists in preparation of annual financial and operational budgets. 2. Coordinates with Procurement, Sales, and Supply Chain to assure effective production scheduling. 3. Collaborates with R&D, Process Engineering, and Engineering to identify and implement innovative technologies and solutions. 4. Works closely with HR to effectively implement recruiting, compensation, engagement, and disciplinary measures.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, agriculture, biology or relevant applied science. • Has 5-7 years of successfully leading a food processing manufacturing facility (spray drying experience is a plus). * Demonstrated superior organizational skills; have the ability prioritize competing demands in a complex environment to deliver results. * Possess strong analytical skills: be adept at analyzing data to identify key trends and opportunities. * Strong emotional intelligence. * The ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
